Virtual Reality Bike

Since 2016, we have been working together with the City of Zurich on Virtual Reality to sensitize cyclists to road traffic hazards. Since 2018, Suva has also been involved in the project and has had the VR videos translated into all national languages. According to Suva, around 50 accidents occur every day with bicycles – or 18,000 accidents per year in road traffic. 82% of these are self-accidents, 18% collisions. In its range of services, Suva provides insured companies with a set of four VR glasses and learning films free of charge.

Since the beginning of April 2019, the content developed by Bandara has been part of the permanent exhibition at the Swiss Museum of Transport. On the «Virtual Reality Velo» theme island, visitors can swing onto a stationary bicycle, put on VR glasses and experience dangerous traffic situations up close. In addition to producing the content, we were also responsible for compiling and configuring the hardware and for developing software that made the VR films easy to use – including an analysis tool.
